Drug Bust

MONTREAL - The RCMP says it was involved in a monster international drug bust that nabbed more than 43 tonnes of hashish worth an estimated $860 million.

That's the equivalent of 43 million grams — enough hashish to drug every single person in Canada, more than once.

The drugs were seized in several countries including Pakistan, Belgium, Italy and Canada. They were destined for Montreal and Halifax.

Police say the amount seized is equivalent to more than half of all the hashish sent to Canada, or confiscated here, for the entire year 2009.

Project Celsius began in 2009 and 2010 when authorities discovered drugs at the ports of Montreal and Halifax.

Eight Montreal-area residents have been arrested and will face charges of conspiracy, importing and possession of cannabis resin for the purpose of trafficking.

The RCMP investigation revealed that most of the hashish came from Pakistan.

What a waste. Of hash, and of RCMP manpower.

A waste of taxpayer money fighting a non crime while multinational alcohol and tobacco companies thrive killing millions every year, hundreds of thousands in Canada. Oh the hipocracy.

Gotta love how the government does its math 43 million grams = $860 million LOL . No big dealer sells it by gram. and most hash is not $20/gram. The total at this quantity is more like $43 million which is a giant difference in price. I guess they are trying to big themselves up. Furthermore don't trust the government bean counters, conservatives are generally poor at math that's why they are always in the red

Wow, what a difference between this board and one I read yesterday with an American audience, not one reefer madness type comment (one possibly a little reefer confused but not madness haha). How did a fairly enlightened country end up with a pack of 1950's hayseeds for gov?

Nice picture.
I used to love smoking hash.
Black hash and good strong coffee.
Mellow buzz.
Last time I smoked it it was 1997.
And I made it myself .
Good times.

I don't believe there are many Canadians who are celebrating this loss, smokers or not...surely our cops should have something more useful to do than feebly attempt to deter stoners and casual smokers? Marijauna is already an accepted aspect of our culture - even watch mainstream films, and you'll find plenty of weed-positive jokes and the like.
