Surrey woman charged in death of friend

A Surrey, B.C., woman has been charged with second degree murder, following the death of a Burnaby woman last Thursday.

RCMP said Tashina Rae Sutherland, 23, was found dead in a home in the 10600 block of 138 Street in Surrey Thursday evening.

Police would not reveal how Sutherland died, but said she appeared to have met with foul play.

On Monday, Surrey resident Jessica Ashley Hanley, 23, was charged with second-degree murder, said Sgt. Jennifer Pound.

“It is believed that the victim and suspect have known each other for an extensive amount of time," said Pound.

RCMP said Hanley has no criminal record and made her first court appearance Monday afternoon.
