Embattled MNA Tomassi resigns

Tony Tomassi, the Montreal MNA who was kicked out of cabinet and the Liberal caucus two years ago amid corruption allegations, is retiring from politics.

The independent MNA for the Lafontaine riding in Montreal's east end anounced Thursday that he will resign from his seat.

Tomassi is currently facing several criminal charges including breach of trust and fraud. The charges are related to allegations of his improper use of a corporate credit card given to him by the now defunct security firm, BCIA.

Tomassi has held the Lafontaine riding since 2003 but lost his cabinet post and was forced out of the Liberal party's caucus two years ago this Sunday.
