TORONTO - Ontario drivers will now be asked at the licensing counter if they want to be organ donors.

The province already mails out organ donor consent forms when someone renews their driver's licence or health card.

But staff at ServiceOntario centres will also ask drivers who come in to register or renew their licence or photo card whether they want to be a donor.

Government Services Minister Harinder Takhar says it will make it easier for people to join the provincial organ donation registry.

The governing Liberals say the pilot program will expand to 91 ServiceOntario centres in the coming months.

They say it will be rolled out to all remaining locations over the next year.
