Ontario Provincial Police are looking for a small airplane that failed to arrive at its destination after a flight from Quebec on Monday night.

Police say the four-seater was being flown by a 61-year-old Quebec man, who was the lone occupant.

The plane took off from St-Mathieu De Beloeil, Que., east of Montreal and was supposed to arrive at the Buttonville Airport in Markham, Ont., north of Toronto, at 11 p.m. on Monday.

The last known co-ordinates of the plane were reported around 11:30 p.m., in an area south of Hastings, Ont.

Provincial police, including an emergency response team, are conducting a ground level search of the area about 35 kilometres east of Peterborough.

The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton, Ont., also has a helicopter and a Hercules airplane conducting a search from the sky.

Anyone who heard a low-flying airplane in the area on Monday evening is being asked to contact provincial police.
