Man, 50, charged in stabbing of girl, 13

Police have charged a 50-year-old man with attempted murder after a 13-year-old girl was stabbed in the neck and back with a knife on Tuesday.

The incident happened just after 4 p.m. when a girl and a man were speaking to each other outside an apartment building at 88 Broadway Ave., near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue.

Police say the man became upset during the conversation and the girl was stabbed in the neck. When she turned to flee she was slashed across the back, according to police.

A witness intervened and held the man until police arrived. The girl was taken to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

Police have not identified the man to protect the identity of the victim. Police have also not stated the nature of his relationship to the girl.

In addition to attempted murder, the man faces charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and uttering death threats.
