TORONTO - A Canadian has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in the beating death of 19-year-old Barrie, Ont., man in the Dominican Republic last year.

Jordan Morrison was killed outside a nightclub in Punta Cana on Feb. 4, 2011.

Canadian citizen Dmytro Aref Yev was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but Algerian national Bouzid Redha was acquitted.

Yev told the jury he acted alone, then pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Witnesses had said Morrison was attacked after he had come to the aid of a woman in a bar who was spit on.

Three other Canadian tourists were initially held in connection with the attack, but were released on bail after a judge decided they had no direct role in the fight. (CITY)
