Nanos Number: For voters, it's the economy, stupid

Nik Nanos digs beneath the numbers with CBC Power & Politics host Evan Solomon to get to the political, economic and social forces that shape our lives.

This week's number: 47.

That's the percentage of Canadians who rate "Fiscal frameworks, managing a province's money" a 10 out of 10 in importance when evaluating provincial leadership.

The number is from a random representative online survey of 1,002 Canadians aged 18 and over, conducted by Nanos Research April 13-14, 2012.

The "perfect 10" ranking by nearly half of respondents suggests that management of a province's money is the most important consideration for voters when choosing a premier — and may help explain the recent electoral success of incumbent premiers in Alberta, Saskatchewan and even Ontario.
