A 33-year-old woman who was struck by an SUV as she walked along Birchmount Road on Monday morning, has died of her injuries.

Police say the pedestrian was struck as she walked along the west side of Birchmount Road, near the intersection with Steeles Avenue East.

Investigators say a Ford Escape was travelling east along Steeles Avenue East, when it lost control while in the curb lane approaching the intersection.

The vehicle went over the curb, struck a bus shelter, then hit a traffic signal pole and the pedestrian.

It came to a stop when it collided with a vehicle in the intersection.

Police say they want to speak with drivers who witnessed the accident, or who saw the Ford Escape before it reached the intersection.
