Ontario Provincial Police say a Toronto woman has died after being injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way.
The accident happened at about 3:45 a.m.
Police say the accident was a chain reaction accident involving three cars and a tractor-trailer.
"A Lincoln Town Car struck the rear of a Nissan Altima. That vehicle spun out, went into the ditch against the cement barrier wall. The Lincoln Town Car crossed into what we call lane one of the fast lanes of the highway — the left lane. The driver got out of the vehicle ... and then the Lincoln Town Car was rear-ended by a third vehicle, which is a BMW. That BMW crossed all three lanes of the highway, over to the right side, and then was struck by a tractor-trailer," said OPP Sgt. Woodford.
The woman who died was a passenger in the BMW, police said.
Traffic was re-routed around the accident scene for about five hours.
The QEW was closed, westbound, from Mississauga Road to Erin Mills Parkway for the entire morning rush hour.
The male driver of the Lincoln is facing careless driving charges.
