Quebec Premier Jean Charest once again faced student protesters during his visit to Gatineau, Que., today.
Charest is in town for a conference of municipalities at the Casino du Lac Leamy. Student protesters are expected to shift their demonstrations from a campus at the CEGEP de l'Outaouais to the casino.
Students are trying to pressure Charest into abandoning a plan to hike tuition fees for students across the province.
Charest has been criticized not only by protesters but also by the official opposition in Quebec. Parti Québécois leader Pauline Marois said Tuesday the government should reopen discussions immediately so students do not lose their semester.
As for the Gatineau CEGEP, classes were once again cancelled even though the school and the students association have reached an agreement to allow some technical courses to continue including nursing, dental hygiene and police studies.
