WINNIPEG - Manitoba's Mental Health Court is officially open.

Crown attorney Susan Helenchilde says court heard its first two cases this morning with two men pleading guilty to crimes and entering the program.

The court initially planned to take only those who committed non-violent crimes, but both men admitted today committed assaults.

Helenchilde says the men are being allowed in because the Crown decided there were no serious injuries.

The court cost $600,000 and will run once a week.
