The body of a 61-year-old pliot and his missing plane were found Thursday at a crash site near Elizabethville, Ont., about 40 kilometres south of Peterborough.

The plane took off from St-Mathieu De Beloeil, Que., east of Montreal on Monday and was scheduled to arrive at the Buttonville Airport in Markham, Ont., north of Toronto, at 11 p.m. that night.

When it failed to arrive, the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton, Ont., and the Ontario Provincial Police began a search involving a Hercules aircraft and two Griffon helicopters.

The pilot, whose name has not been released, was the lone occupant of the plane.

"The thoughts and hearts of all of us involved with the search mission are extended to the family and friends of the deceased pilot," said Captain Ken Millard, searchmaster for the mission.

The plane was a four-seater, single-engine Grumman AA5.

Strange, more than two full days to find it. Elizabethville being only 17 Kilometers south of what should have been his projected course and a mere 60 Kilometers east of Markham. Also as E.L.T.s are manditory for all aircraft and transponders strange that he was not detected going off the radar screen even if he had cancelled flight following and was sqauking 1200 where there is no arodrome. even so, more than two days missing and 60ks short of his goal and only about 17ks off line, even up in the remote north with two search helicopters looking for a missing plane would have been too long and that with the airoplane hiden by trees or bush with E.L.T. not working. Not good enough Air Traffic Control and Search & Rescue, Just NOT good enough !!!!

Two days in not all that long. The country is big. Lots of planes are lost and never found. But regarding your ELT comments I reckon this could have played a role.
