Police are investigating after a 36-year-old man died from stab wounds he received in a fight in Maple Ridge early Sunday morning.

RCMP were called to Ridge Meadows Hospital around 2:30 a.m. where the victim was being treated after the fight, which occurred a short time earlier near the intersection of 223rd Street and McIntosh Avenue.

The victim later died from his injuries. He has not yet been named but police have confirmed he was known to them.

The Homicide Investigation Team is looking for a suspect and are investigating a nearby apartment building which may be related to the incident. Early indications suggest the homicide is not gang-related.

However, police say there is nothing to indicate this was a random attack and they believe the individuals involved knew each other.

A vehicle linked to the victim has been seized.
