Saint John, N.B., elects new mayor by wide margin over incumbent

SAINT JOHN, - Saint John elected a new mayor in New Brunswick's municipal elections on Monday.

Results on the Elections New Brunswick website show Mel Norton as having swept to victory over incumbent Ivan Court by a wide margin.

Norton said during his campaign that he would tackle the city's pension deficit and improve its services.

Brad Woodside returned as mayor of Fredericton and Moncton re-elected George LeBlanc as mayor.

Elections New Brunswick says that 95 municipal councillors and 44 mayors have already been acclaimed prior to today's municipal elections.

That's about 18 per cent of councillors and 42 per cent of mayors.
