Outaouais man charged with 1st-degree murder

A Val-des-Monts, Que., man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the homicide of 57-year-old Richard Blanchet.

Blanchet was found dead last weekend in his home north of Cantley, Que. Later that week police asked for the public's help to find his missing truck.

Michael Brazier, 40, was arrested Wednesday evening at the Motel Ritz on Gréber Boulevard in Gatineau. Sûreté du Québec police said investigators spotted the victim's missing truck near the motel and proceeded inside to make an arrest.

He appeared in court Thursday and was remanded into custody.

2nd homicide in Outaouais this year

The victim's home at 476 Route Principale (Highway 307) is about 40 minutes from downtown Ottawa in Val-des-Monts.

Damage seen at the home indicates there could have been a break-and-enter.

Blanchet's death is the second homicide in the Outaouais in the past month.

On April 29, 18-year-old Nicolas Quintal was found dead in an abandoned car in the Pontiac region. His 19-year-old friend has been charged with second-degree murder.
