Upgraded murder charges for Brampton dad, stepmom

A father and stepmother each face an upgraded first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of a 10-year-old boy.

Garfield Boothe had faced a second-degree murder in connection with the death of his young son, Shakeil Boothe in May 2011. Nichelle Boothe-Rowe, Garfield's wife, had been charged with manslaughter.

Peel Regional Police said Thursday that first-degree murder charges will officially be laid against both later in the day.

The boy was found dead on May 27, 2011, in a house on Homeland Court, located in the Dixie Road and Howden Drive area of Brampton.
