WestJet is Canada’s most attractive employer, says a survey from a human resources services company.

The Calgary-based airline was the top choice among 150 companies voted on by 7,000 people in the survey from Randstad Canada, beating out steel and mining company ArcelorMittal (second) and aerospace firm Pratt & Whitney (third).

Westjet topped two of 10 attractiveness categories -- a pleasant work environment and interesting job content.

Beer and air travel were two noticeable themes among preferred employers, with both Molson Coors and Brewers Retail, owner of Ontario's Beer Store chain, making the list. Aside from WestJet, travel company and charter airline Transat also made the top 10.

Some of the survey’s other findings:

-- Job security is the most important factor for employees when it comes to an employer’s attractiveness, with 65 per cent listing it as a factor. In second place was a competitive salary and benefits (61 per cent), a pleasant work atmosphere (54 per cent), the financial health of the organization (45 per cent) and career progression opportunities (36 per cent).

-- Engineering is the most attractive sector in Canada, with 48 per cent expressing an interest in it. That’s followed by high tech manufacturing (47.5 per cent) and transport and logistics (46.4 per cent).

The survey sampled some 7,000 people on their perceptions of companies, and included only enterprises that operate in Canada and have more than 1,000 employees.
