Two young men were found dead in the Lake of Two Mountains Sunday morning, nearly 18 hours after they disappeared into the water in Oka provincial park.
The two men, 19 and 22, were walking with five others in the water near the shore at around 2 p.m. ET Saturday when two of them slipped into deep water.
“There were other people close by but they weren’t able to rescue them,” said Sgt. Ronald McInnis of theSûreté du Québec.
One of the men did not know how to swim, police said.
The men’s friends and family stood on the beach Sunday as search teams from the Sûreté du Québec, aided by Montreal police, scoured the water for any sign of the men.
Their bodies were recovered not far from where they were last seen, police said.
