The Ministry of Natural Resources says crews are still making good progress in stamping out the large fire near Timmins.
As of Monday night, the MNR reported that bulldozers and excavators were at work around the perimeter of the fire to help with suppression.
The fire is still about 30 kilometres away from the core of the city.
Calm wind, cooler temperatures and rain patches have helped and about 180 fire rangers from Ontario and BC will continue to work today on the enormous blaze known as Timmins 9.
Highway 144 remains closed, but highway 101 is expected to reopen today.
