Shooter of Surrey teen sentenced to 7 years

The 22-year-old Surrey man who shot and killed a teenager for allegedly keying his BMW has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Steven Brandon Mulligan-Brum was 20 years old when he shot 17-year-old Aden (Adem) Aliu outside a Guildford townhouse complex in July 2010.

Police said Aliu, who died shortly afterward, had been in the area slashing tires and keying cars with friends.

At the sentencing hearing on Wednesday, Aliu's uncle told the court that he had brought the boy to Canada from Kosovo for a safer life.

Mulligan-Brum, in turn, told the court that he had been carrying the gun for protection.
