Bomb threat closes B.C. ferry terminal

An anonymous bomb threat closed down the Departure Bay ferry terminal on Vancouver Island Saturday, forcing the cancellation of several sailings.

Officials say the person called BC Ferries at about 3 p.m. PT and said there was a bomb aboard the Queen of Coquitlam, which was about to leave for Horseshoe Bay.

The vessel was evacuated and about 500 passengers taken to a nearby recreation centre while a bomb-sniffing dog was brought in to look for explosives.

Police say the vessel was cleared at about 6:30 p.m. and the passengers were taken back to the ferry terminal.

The Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit is investigating.
