The government is amending its Aquaculture Act to modernize regulations and bring the province in line with other jurisdictions.
The amendments include new rules for reclaiming abandoned sites, enhanced enforcement and new rules for animal health.
As well, the act will now give the fisheries minister the authority to give aquaculture inspectors the powers of peace officers.
There are 133 aquaculture sites across the province, contributing more than $120 million to the provincial economy.
Fisheries Minister Darin King says the industry has created more than 500 jobs since 2007.
