Regina man pleads guilty to B.C. sexual assaults

A Regina man has pleaded guilty to several charges related to a string of robberies and sexual assaults throughout B.C. in 2009.

Shaun Richard Funk, 38, was arrested in Regina on two Canada-wide warrants in November 2009. On Monday he pleaded guilty in B.C. Supreme Court to:

- Robbery of a woman in North Vancouver on Aug. 7, 2009.

- Confinement and sexual assault of a Squamish woman on Aug. 28, 2009.

- Sexual assault and break and enter in Ladysmith on Sept. 26, 2009.

- Robbery in Nanaimo on Oct.17, 2009.

Prosecutor Nicole Gregoire said the Crown would seek a psychiatric assessment of Funk and could possibly apply for a "dangerous offender" status.

It was also revealed in court that new DNA evidence has linked Funk to new charges in Manitoba.
