Postmedia Cuts: Copy Editors Told Their Jobs Are Relocating To Hamilton

Posted: Updated:

TORONTO -- Postmedia is giving some of its staff the option to relocate to a new Hamilton editorial hub as part of the expense cuts announced last week.

A spokeswoman confirmed that the publisher met with some employees at the Ottawa Citizen on Tuesday to discuss whether they'd consider moving from the nation's capital.

Postmedia plans to shift the jobs of certain editorial staff to Hamilton, including copy editors and headline writers, and said "if it's the right fit'' would like to hire internally.

The Hamilton operations already house a variety of production jobs, including page layout and sports scores.

Last week, the company announced major changes to its operating plan, which included axing several of its local Sunday papers and cutting an unspecified number of jobs.
