The father of a five-year-old girl is facing charges of sexual assault and making child pornography, two weeks after the child's uncle was charged with similar crimes.

Police rescued the child May 25th after receiving information about pornographic material found in the U.S. that appeared to have originated from Canada.

Police confirmed the victim’s identity within 48 hours and arrested her uncle the next day, charging him with sexual assault and several child pornography offences.

On Thursday police charged the child's father with sexual assault, sexual interference, incest, accessing child pornography, possession of child pornography and making child pornography.

The child was living with her uncle and father at time of arrest, police said, though they would not disclose where the child's mother lived.

Due to a publication ban protecting the victim’s identity, neither man can be named.

“Following last week’s arrest, I said that our team is always open to the possibility of more suspects,” said RCMP Sgt. Mike Lokken.

The father made his first court appearance Friday.
