Woman dies after being pinned by car in Vancouver

A 52-year-old Vancouver woman has died after being struck by a car while she walked on a sidewalk Monday afternoon in Vancouver.

Witnesses said the woman was walking west on the sidewalk at Broadway near MacDonald Street when a car jumped the curb and pinned her against a storefront.

The woman was transported to hospital, where she later died.

Police said the 67-year-old male driver was attempting to park his car.

“[The driver] was parallel parking and ... the car, for whatever reason, accelerated striking this woman,” said Const. Lindsey Houghton.

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors.

Houghton said police are asking any witnesses to give them a call.
