Overturned skiff found in Howe Sound

An air and ground search is underway after a 12-foot aluminum boat was found overturned near the entrance to Howe Sound Saturday morning.

Capt. Ray Jacobson with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria said the engine was in the running position and there was a lot of gear on board.

"Indications are, so far, that this vessel or this skiff was occupied at some point and there's no longer anybody on board," he said.

A passing boat found the skiff awash at about 8:30 a.m. PT.

According to the Coast Guard, no one has been reported missing in the area but officials are asking anyone who recognizes the boat to contact them.
