SASKATOON - Saskatchewan News Democrats are holding their first convention since the party was decimated in the provincial election last fall.

Interim leader John Nilson says people who gather for the meeting in Saskatoon this weekend will talk about what's happened over the last few years and the future of the party.

This convention is not officially about finding the next NDP leader _ that campaign won't kick off until the fall.

But Nilson says during this convention he'll encourage qualified people to think seriously about putting their names forward.

New Democrats will pick a new permanent leader at their convention next March.

Nilson says his job is to pull people together to make sure there is a good leadership process.
