MONTREAL - A private memorial has been held for a Concordia University student who was killed and dismembered in a case that sparked an international manhunt for his alleged killer.

The university says family and friends attended the memorial to celebrate the life of Jun Lin, 33, one month after he was killed and his body parts mailed to two political parties and two Vancouver schools.

In a eulogy released by the university, Lin's mother said the last 30 days have been the most difficult of the family's life.

Lin was described as a kind person who enjoyed helping others and a young man who was "disciplined, sincere, open-minded, and mild-tempered."

Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, was arrested in Germany and charged with first-degree murder in the case.

He has pleaded not guilty and will face a preliminary hearing next March.
