Ontario bar owners charged after fatal crash

Co-owners of a Belleville, Ont., bar face several charges related to serving too much alcohol leading to the deaths of two people.

Ontario Provincial Police say the charges stem from a fatal crash on Feb. 6 that killed Korin Howes, 23, of Belleville, and Shaina Harrison, 23, of Oshawa, Ont.

One of the drivers is alleged to have been drinking at the bar in Belleville before getting into a vehicle and driving the wrong direction on Highway 401.

Police said the vehicle was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes when it hit another vehicle head-on near Trenton.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation has led police to charge two bar co-owners, one from Ottawa and the other from Bloomfield, Ont., in Prince Edward County.

They each face seven charges including manslaughter.

Both are set to appear in a Belleville courtroom July 26.
