Teen dead after crash north of Montebello

Quebec provincial police are investigating after the body of an 18-year-old driver was found in a vehicle that crashed overnight north of Montebello, Que., about 100 km northeast of Ottawa.

Police say they were called to Route 323 in Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix, Que. at about 5:15 a.m. ET after receiving reports of a car that left the road and crashed into a ravine.

Officers said the car appeared to have rolled several times before coming to rest, but it is not yet known at what time the accident happened. They also said the driver might have fallen asleep at the wheel.

The man is from Saint-André-Avellin, Que., which is less than 20 km northeast of the crash site.

Police continue to investigate and they have closed Route 323. Detours are in place.
