Police in western Quebec say the man crashed and rolled his car down a ravine on Cléo Fournier Way in Masham, Que., about 45 kilometres northwest of Gatineau, Que. The crash occurred at approximately 11 p.m. ET Tuesday.
The car came to rest in a body of water before witnesses called police indicating the occupants were in a panic.
The 34-year-old father, his wife and their child, as well as another man who was a passenger in the car, escaped the vehicle with the help of a passerby and then left the scene and headed to Wakefield hospital, according to west Quebec regional police.
The girl was transfered to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver was arrested after a breathalyzer test showed he had 1.5-times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.
Police said his driver's license had been previously suspended. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 25.Suggest a correction
