Air Canada reports record load factor in June

Air Canada said its planes flew 85.6 per cent full on average last month, a record load factor for the month of June.

That was a 1.4 percentage point gain from a year earlier.

Passenger traffic rose 1.5 per cent at the same time as it cut capacity by 0.1 per cent.

WestJet Airlines Ltd. says it also had fewer empty seats, with a load factor of 79 per cent, compared with 75.7 per cent a year earlier, while passenger traffic was up 6.7 per cent from the same time last year.

It also says advance bookings for July and August are strong.

Private regional carrier Porter Airlines also showed higher traffic levels last month, up 4.1 per cent from June 2011, while

its load factor of 62 per cent for June was down from 64.6 per cent a year ago.
