The victim’s body was discovered on Meadowbank Road, near Highway 427 and Burnhamthorpe Road. He had multiple gunshot wounds to his head and upper body.
Det. Sgt. Pauline Gray told reporters that witnesses described hearing shots just after 4 a.m. Thursday and then seeing a dark-coloured vehicle leaving the area.
“At this point, I’m assuming that he was brought here by that vehicle. He does not belong on this street and that’s what I can say,” said Gray.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gray said police are now in the process of trying to identify the victim, whom she said is dark-skinned and is believed to be between 20 and 30 years of age.
The victim was dressed in a manner that suggests “he didn’t walk here in the middle of the night,” Gray said, without giving further details.
The CBC’s Trevor Dunn reported that the victim was not wearing a shirt or shoes when he was found.
John Souza lives in the area and was disturbed by the scene.
"This really upsets me. This is an outstanding neighbourhood," he said.
Police have not released any names or descriptions of suspects.
The shooting marks the 26th homicide in Toronto this year. Sixteen of the victims have died after being shot.Suggest a correction
