Mueller, 24, agreed to a one-year contract with the Southeast Division club just a couple weeks after the Colorado Avalanche neglected to make him a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent.
The centre scored 22 goals and 32 assists in his rookie season in 2007-08 with Phoenix, but wasn't able to match that standard the next two seasons.
While with Colorado, he suffered multiple concussions, and has played just 32 games over the past two NHL seasons.
"I'm just ready to rock and roll this coming season," Mueller said on a media conference call, adding that he hasn't felt as healthy since his rookie season.
For his career, the Bloomington, Minn., native has scored 55 goals and added 88 assists in 254 regular season games, with 80 penalty minutes.
