SASKATOON - Saskatchewan's NDP says the government's changes to regulations of public pools may be putting people at risk.

MLA Cam Broten says the changes by the Saskatchewan Party means each public pool in the province can decide what training or qualifications a lifeguard requires.

Broten says stakeholders have been told that many of the former standards set by The Swimming Pool Regulations have been replaced by the government with an expectation that pool operators will develop their own "swimming pool safety plan."

The MLA also says swimmers-to-lifeguard ratios have also been removed from the regulations.
