Brazilian cocktail varied with watermelon for delectable hot weather drink

Caipirinha, considered Brazil’s national cocktail, is a celebrated beverage. This summer make a variation with watermelon for the perfect party sip. In this refreshing creation, the distinct flavours of lime, ginger and mint are beautifully complemented by the sweet taste of watermelon to create a delectable drink that is best served cold on a hot day.

Watermelon Caipirinha

Vodka or rum can be used in place of cachaca, which is a Brazilian brandy made of sugar cane.

1 lime

5 quarter-sized slices ginger

10 ml (2 tsp) sugar

6 chopped mint leaves

60 ml (2 oz) watermelon puree

60 ml (2 oz) cachaca

30 ml (1 oz) grenadine

Ice

Muddle lime, ginger, sugar and mint and transfer to a cocktail shaker. Add watermelon puree, grenadine, cachaca and ice. Shake. Pour into a glass and serve.

Makes 1 cocktail.
