5 people in custody after shots fired in Vancouver

Five people — including four teenagers — are in police custody after shots were fired in Vancouver early Sunday morning.

Police received a call of gunshots being fired outside a house in the 400 block of East 49th Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. PT. Witnesses also reported hearing a car drive away.

Officers arrived to find several shell casings and bullet damage to a house. Four people were inside the home at the time but no one was hurt.

Police found the suspects several blocks away, according to Const. Lindsey Houghton, Vancouver police spokesman.

"After a short negotiation, three young men — one 20 years old, one 19 years old and one 18 years old — as well as two 17-year-old male youth were taken into custody without incident," Houghton said.

"They all remain in police custody and are facing possible firearms and mischief-related charges."

Police are still looking into the motive for the shooting, but Houghton says it doesn't appear to be random.
