Severe weather in Quebec City

A sudden thunder and lightning storm in Quebec City caused flooding and power outages Sunday night.

Heavy rain and rising water on 3rd Avenue under the de la Capitale overpass in Limoilou forced several drivers to abandon their vehicles.

Lightning strikes and falling branches caused power outages.

About 1400 Hydro Quebec clients were without power in the Quebec City area Monday morning. Another 1800 were without power in Chaudière-Appalaches, mostly in Thetford Mines.

The storm also forced organizers of the Festival d'été de Québec to cancel the final outdoor shows due to safety concerns.

Meanwhile, in LaTuque, a flash rainstorm dropped between 30 and 40 millimetres of rain in just 15 minutes Sunday evening, causing some flooding in the region.
