Thunderstorms leave some without power in GTA

Thunderstorms pounded the Greater Toronto Area Sunday, temporarily flooding some roads, causing injury and leaving some residents without power.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Toronto by Environment Canada around 12:30 p.m. Sunday and resulted in a lot of rainfall, between 60 and 80 mm, and a lightning strike at the Whitby Ribfest that injured 17 people.

Today the city of Toronto is assessing the damage and cleaning up.

Some homes on Weston Road and around Kingston Road near Kennedy Road in Scarborough are still without power.

There have also been reports of basements flooding in East York and Scarborough.

A sinkhole also formed on Cederbrae Circuit near Lawrence Avenue and Markham Road.
