STONY PLAIN, Alta. - Alberta Health Services has issued a warning to people advising them not to swim or wade in Hasse Lake due to elevated levels of fecal coliform.

AHS also says to not ingest the lake water, as water-borne organisms, including fecal coliform, can negatively affect the digestive tract.

Elevated levels of fecal coliform were detected during routine testing of Hasse Lake water.

At current levels, skin, ear and eye infections can result from any contact with Hasse Lake water.

The lake is about an hour west of Edmonton.

AHS will continue to monitor the water.
