Predators evaluating Flyers' offer to Shea Weber

The Philadelphia Flyers signed defenceman Shea Weber to an offer sheet, and the Nashville Predators have every intention of keeping their franchise cornerstone in the fold.

Predators general manager David Poile issued a statement on Thursday with regards to the reported 14-year, $100 million US deal.

"We have stated previously that, should a team enter into an offer sheet with Shea our intention would be to match and retain Shea," Poile said. "Our ownership has provided us with the necessary resources to build a Stanley Cup-winning team."

He added the team will examine the deal thoroughly during the seven-day time frame allotted for teams to match offer sheets for restricted free agents.

Weber, 26, is the Predators' captain and played on a $7.5 million arbitrator's award last season. He had 19 goals and 49 points along the way.
