Canada's men's 4x100m relay team reaches podium

The Canadian foursome of Akeem Haynes, Oluseyi Smith, Jared Connaughton and Justyn Warner placed third in Friday’s 4x100-metre relay at the Diamond League meet in Monaco.

Canada finished in a time of 38.60 seconds, one second behind the winning United States “red” team, which posted a world-best time for this season at 37.61.

An American “blue” team finished second in 37.83 seconds.

In the women’s 4x100 relay, the U.S. “red” team failed to finish following a mix-up during the final baton handover.

Tiana Madison, Allyson Felix, Jeneba Tarmoh and Carmelita Jeter built a healthy lead but Tarmoh and Jeter were unable to transfer the baton at the last change-over.

"It was a communication problem," Tarmoh told reporters.

"We were in the right positions but I couldn't put the baton in her hand. It was only the second time that I was passing to Carmelita.

"I don't think it'll make a difference for the Olympic Games. We should keep the same four girls."

The American “blue” foursome of Lauryn Williams, Alexandria Anderson, English Gardner and Kimberlyn Duncan won the race in 42.24 seconds.
