Homes near Barrie bomb house evacuated again

Certain homes near a house in Barrie, Ont., where scores of explosive devices were found have been evacuated for the second time, a day after police declared the area safe.

Around 60 people in the vicinity of the house at 30 Virgilwood Crescent were allowed to return to their homes Thursday after a weeklong evacuation. Police said they had searched the home, where they had found an assortment of chemicals, 83 improvised explosive devices and 29 firearms, and determined the house and the neighbourhood were safe.

But that has now changed, with some people being forced to leave their homes again. It's not clear exactly what prompted today's move.

The explosives and weapons were found following the arrest of two men in connection with a cold-case homicide. Police also discovered a bunker crammed with electronic equipment and various items packed in plastic bags hanging on the walls.
