Two forest fires have forced more than 200 people from their homes in cottage country.

One fire broke out in Milford Bay, northwest of Bracebridge, the other on the Shawanaga First Nation, which lies closer to Parry Sound.

Ministry of Natural Resources spokesman Mike Ward said the evacuations are precautionary and crews are now on the scene.

"For the fire on Shawanaga First Nation, we dispatched three fire-ranger crews as well as an engine. They were supported [from] the air by two Twin Otter water-bombers," Ward told CBC News.

Ward said that the ministry also sent water bombers to help out with the fire in Milford Bay, where local firefighters were attacking the blaze on the ground.

It is not yet clear when residents will be able to return to their homes.
