Pedestrian, 27, killed crossing St-Denis St.

A 27-year-old man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle Monday night at the intersection of Mont Royal Blvd. and St-Denis St. in Montreal's Plateau district.

Witnesses told police the man stumbled and fell on the pavement as he was walking across St-Denis St., and a few seconds later a southbound vehicle struck him.

"According to witnesses, the pedestrian was crossing against the red light, which means the vehicle was driving on his green light," said Montreal police spokesperson Anie Lemieux. "It's possible that the driver did not see the pedestrian that had fallen on the ground."

Police investigators interviewed the driver, trying to determine the exact cause of the accident.
