CALGARY - A public hearing on a proposal to build a pipeline to ship oilsands bitumen from Alberta to the British Columbia coast has been cancelled in Calgary due to a lack of interest.

The Joint Review Panel hearing into Calgary-based Enbridge's (TSX:ENB) $6 billion Northern Gateway pipeline was to be held on Wednesday.

Officials say less than 15 people registered to make statements at the Calgary hearing, so it has been cancelled.

Earlier this month, a similar public hearing on the pipeline set for Edmonton was cancelled for the same reason.

More than 4,000 people in B.C. have registered to make comments on the project.

Alberta and Ottawa support the pipeline, but Premier Christy Clark says B.C. wants a bigger share of the economic benefits before it will endorse the project.
