Officer dragged while attempting arrest in Peterborough

A 22-year-old man is facing a number of charges after a police officer from a First Nation reserve near Peterborough, Ont., was dragged while attempting to make an arrest.

Ontario Provincial Police say the Hiawatha First Nation officer pulled over a pick-up truck south of Peterborough early Friday.

According to police, the driver became difficult and refused to cooperate before putting his truck in gear when the officer tried to arrest him.

The officer was dragged about five metres before getting free.

He was taken to hospital.

The suspect, William Kenny of Bailieboro, Ont., stopped a short distance away from the scene and was arrested.
