Police investigate Williams Lake arrest

West Vancouver police have been called in to investigate the conduct of a Williams Lake RCMP officer, after a man who was arrested ended up in hospital.

A 35-year-old man was injured following a police vehicle chase on July 21 that began near Quesnel and ended in the area of Williams Lake.

Williams Lake RCMP stated that the man was injured during the arrest, and remained in hospital as of Friday — almost a week later.

The West Vancouver Police Department is conducting a criminal investigation into the arrest and the actions of the arresting officer.

The West Vancouver department said it is committed to carrying out the investigation in "a fair, transparent and timely manner."

The Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP has also been notified.

Williams Lake is more than 500 kilometres northeast of Vancouver and West Vancouver, B.C.
